Think back for a moment to when you left school. You may have had a clear idea of who you wanted to be and what you wanted to do, ready to get going the moment you walked out of the school gates for the final time; or perhaps for you school was just the first step in education - with university or college your next destination.
However, with Andy Harper - Managing Director of Set & Match - his father wasn’t going to leave anything to chance. He’d arranged an interview for him, the day after he finished school. It was with a local printing company - and Andy hasn’t looked back since.
In this episode of Scale Up Radio, Kevin Brent speaks to Andy about his scale up journey which, so far, has taken him from school leaver, through various jobs in the printing industry right through to running a 13-person company with clients up and down the country.
In the conversation, Andy covers a lot of ground. Including:
- Why in his world a quick turnaround is essential for maintaining client relationships
- The importance of striving to keep as much of your output as possible in-house
- Making sure that you always have back up equipment - and keep updating your equipment as technology changes
- How loyalty & support have kept Andy at the same company for nearly 3 decades, and why loyalty & support is a two-way street when it comes to employees
Listening to this conversation, it’s clear that Andy is very passionate about what he does - and incredibly knowledgeable about the print industry too.
However, that doesn’t mean that the lessons he’s learned and the advice he gives won’t apply to you and whatever field you’re currently working in. There’s definitely something in here for everyone.
