ScaleUp Radio

Jul 20, 2020

ScaleUp Radio is no stranger to sportsmen. We’ve had former badminton players in the past, and professional footballer - but this is the first former professional rugby player that we’ve had on the podcast.

Kevin Brent is speaking to Nick Baxter, the founder and boss of Baxter Williams, a recruitment business that deals locally, nationally and internationally.

In just 3 years, Nick has managed to scale up the company from working out of his basement to a passionate team of 11.

As you’ll hear Nick is incredibly talkative, which means that there is a lot of ground covered in our conversation.

Just some of the things that we talked about include:

 - Making your mark in an incredibly busy marketplace

 - Being the boss shouldn’t take you away from front line of the business

 - There are so many transferable skills from sport to business, not least dealing with your team!

 - The key things to bear in mind when you’re building your team

 - How much that research can affect your business. Talk to your past clients to help with decisions on your future

Of course over the last few episodes we’ve been hearing how the coronavirus lockdown has affected different companies in different ways. It was fascinating to hear how Nick reacted to the lockdown, and the very different direction it took him.

There really is an awful lot to takeaway from this episode, so I’d make sure that you have some paper and a pen handy.
