This week’s guest on ScaleUp Radio is Rob Savage from Control & Shift, who are an IT support company.
Of course, it could have been Rob from Rob savage.com or any number of companies over the past 18 years.
As you’ll hear, Rob has changed the name of the business quite a few times before settling on Control & Shift back in 2016.
Rob is slightly different from so many business owners that we hear from on ScaleUp Radio, in that he’s not interested in varying the IT services that he provides. He wants to focus on the support side of things, meaning that his customers get a high quality service.
As always, finding out about Rob’s scale up journey took the conversation in many different directions, and we covered an awful lot, including:
- Never underestimate the power of Word Of Mouth
- How not being all things to all people and just focussing on what you do best can be the very thing that separates you from your competition.
- When to take the leap from subcontracting to actually taking on your first member of staff, and why that person has to share the values and aims for the business.
- Why you shouldn’t necessarily be in a rush to remove yourself from the workforce, by bringing in various levels of management. There is a real value in coming in and ‘getting your hands dirty’ so to speak
It was lovely speaking to Rob and hearing about his scale up journey - and how he doesn’t see it as anywhere near done. Even though he’s very happy with how the company is now, he still wants to grow
